Looking for a group activity that is a little different?
Harlequin Bowmen can arrange have-a-go archery sessions for companies, clubs, community groups and other organisations, giving participants the chance to experience archery in a safe, friendly and supervised environment.
Sessions are supported by club coaches and experienced members who will introduce participants to the basics of archery, explain how to shoot safely and help everyone get the most from their experience.
Whether you are planning a corporate team-building activity, looking for something new for a youth group, or simply want to bring a group together to try a new sport, a have-a-go session is a great introduction to archery.
A minimum of 10 participants is required to run a session.

Who are have-a-go sessions for?
We can arrange sessions for a wide range of groups, including:
-
Companies and workplaces looking for an unusual team-building or social activity
-
Scouts, Guides and other youth organisations wanting to introduce young people to a new sport
-
Sports clubs and community groups looking for a new shared experience
-
Charities and non-profit organisations

Social clubs and groups of friends wanting to try something different
You don't need any previous archery experience. Sessions are designed to introduce newcomers to the sport in an enjoyable and supportive environment.
If you have particular requirements for your group, let us know when you enquire and we can discuss what may be possible.
Why try archery?
Archery is an accessible and rewarding sport that combines physical technique with concentration and mental control.
Participants can develop skills including:

Focus and concentration
Every arrow requires the archer to concentrate on their technique and their target. Archery encourages people to slow down, focus on the task in front of them and shut out distractions.

Coordination and body awareness
Learning to shoot involves bringing together posture, balance, hand-eye coordination and controlled movement.

Patience and perseverance
Archery is a sport where small improvements can make a noticeable difference. Participants learn to adjust their technique, try again and recognise their own progress.

Confidence
There is something particularly satisfying about seeing your first arrows land in the target. With encouragement and guidance, participants can quickly see themselves improving.

Friendly competition
Archery works well as both an individual and group activity. A little friendly competition can be introduced while allowing everyone to progress at their own pace.
Session format
The exact format can be adapted according to the size and needs of your group, but the emphasis throughout will be on giving everyone an enjoyable introduction to archery while maintaining a safe shooting environment.
Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of shooting and given guidance by club coaches and experienced Harlequin Bowmen members.
There will be plenty of opportunity to shoot, receive advice and see how much you can improve during the session.
When you contact us, we'll discuss the size and type of your group and confirm practical details such as session length, location and any other requirements.
Safety comes first
Archery is a very safe sport when it is conducted correctly, and safety is at the heart of every session we run.
Participants must follow the instructions of the coaches and experienced club members supervising the session at all times. We will explain the important range safety rules before shooting begins and provide guidance throughout the activity.
If your group includes younger participants, please include their ages when contacting us so that we can advise whether the proposed session is suitable.
Joining an archery club
A have-a-go session is designed to provide an introduction to archery rather than formal training.
Taking part in one or more have-a-go sessions does not replace the Harlequin Bowmen beginners course.
If you enjoy your session and decide that you would like to take up archery and join the club, you will still need to complete our beginners course before becoming a shooting member.
The beginners course provides more detailed instruction and ensures new archers develop the knowledge, technique and safety awareness needed to shoot independently at the club.
