Visitor information and shooting times

Shooting times and location

Harlequin Bowmen shoots throughout the year, with regular outdoor shooting at Harwell Campus and indoor shooting during the winter season at John Mason School in Abingdon.

This page includes our regular shooting arrangements, location information and details for visiting archers who would like to shoot with us.

Outdoor shooting at Harwell Campus

We have access to the middle playing fields at Harwell throughout the year. Outdoor shooting is usually available all day on Sundays and on most Saturdays, except when rugby or football matches are taking place, or when other HLRA events are being held.

During the summer season, we also have evening access to the HLRA playing fields on Tuesdays from 4:00 pm until dusk, and on Fridays from 2:00 pm until dusk.

By arrangement with HLRA, we are often able to access the field at additional times during the main holiday periods, particularly over Christmas and Easter.

Indoor shooting at John Mason School

During the winter season, we continue to use the field on Saturdays and Sundays as above.

We also shoot indoors every Friday and Saturday from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm, unless the hall is required for school purposes. All indoor shooting takes place at John Mason School in Abingdon.

Visiting archers

Visitors are always welcome to join us at our regular club shoots, provided proof of current Archery GB membership can be shown on arrival.

We offer both target and clout shooting through the year, giving visiting archers the opportunity to enjoy different types of archery with the club.

Visitor fees are:

  • Outdoor shooting: £3 per shoot

  • Indoor shooting: £5 per shoot

If you are planning to visit, we recommend contacting us before attending so we can confirm the session is running as expected and let you know anything you need to be aware of before arriving.

Visiting archers should bring their own shooting equipment and proof of Archery GB membership. Please also make sure you are dressed appropriately for the weather and conditions, especially for outdoor shooting. During the colder months, the field can be wet or uneven underfoot, so suitable footwear is recommended.
